The 2008 Raiders schedule is highlighted by high-profile home games against the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots. The Raiders open against the visiting Broncos on Sept. 8 at 7:15 p.m., the second game of a Monday night ESPN doubleheader. It’s the first prime-time game for Oakland since its 2006 season opener against San Diego. Oakland hosts American Conference champion New England on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 1:15 p.m. Wide receiver Randy Moss returns to McAfee Coliseum for the first time since being traded by the Raiders to the Patriots in April 2007. Oakland also plays a Thursday night game at San Diego on Dec. 4 that is scheduled to be televised on NFL Network. The NFL announced its 2008 regular-season schedule April 15. In 2008, Oakland tries to end a franchise-worst five straight losing seasons. The Raiders' 2008 opponents had a 90-118 combined regular-season record in 2007. Oakland plays three 2007 playoff teams — Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Patriots and San Diego Chargers. Only three of Oakland's opponents had winning records in 2007. The Raiders’ opponents had a .438 winning percentage last season. Only San Diego (.422) and New England (.387) have a more favorable schedule in the AFC. The Raiders play three home-and-home games with division opponents Denver, Kansas City and San Diego. The Raiders play the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens based on a predetermined league formula that pits teams that finished at the same position in their division the previous season. The eight other non-division games are the result of a rotational system, where teams play every team from one AFC division and every team from one NFC division — two at home, two on the road — each year.
