Flores, Wiz On HOF List

Former Raiders coach Tom Flores and ex-Raiders guard Steve Wisniewski are among the 94 players and coaches nominated for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2017.

The HOF announced the 2017 nominees on Sept. 14.

Flores, 79, is the only player in NFL history to win a Super Bowl as a player, an assistant coach and head coach. He coached the Raiders from 1979 to 1987 and compiled a regular-season record of 83-53. He also went 8-3 in the postseason and led the Raiders to victories in Super Bowls XV and XVIII. Flores played quarterback for the Raiders from 1960 to 1966.

Wisniewski, 49, played guard for the Raiders from 1989 to 2001. He was named to the Pro Bowl eight times.

Four other players who spent time with the Raiders were also nominated. They include cornerbacks Albert Lewis (1995 to 1998) and Eric Allen (1998 to 2001), offensive tackle Jim Lachey (1988) and running back Roger Craig (1991).

The list of 2017 nominees will be trimmed to 25 semifinalists in November, and then 15 finalists in January. Those 15 finalists will be considered for induction along with three other finalists who have already been named.

Former Seattle Seahawks safety Kenny Easley was named the Seniors Committee finalist in August, while Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue were named contributor finalists.

To be inducted in 2017, a finalist needs to receive at least 80 percent of the vote from the 46-member selection committee, which will meet Feb. 4, in Houston.
