Report: NFL Won't
Discipline Cable

The NFL said on Feb. 24 that it won't discipline Raiders coach Tom Cable in regard to allegations of domestic violence and an assault of then assistant coach Randy Hanson, according to an Associated Press story.

Hanson accused Cable of attacking him in August during a meeting at the team's training camp in Napa, Calif. Hanson was treated for a broken jaw at a Napa hospital.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told the AP that the league didn't punish Cable because no criminal charges were filed.

Hanson filed a civil lawsuit against the Raiders and Cable on Feb. 23, 2010.

ESPN reported in October allegations of Cable physically abusing his first wife and a former girlfriend. He admitted slapping his first wife, Sandy, more than 20 years ago.

Aiello said that incident didn't merit punishment because it happened before Cable joined the NFL in 2006.

Hanson’s lawsuit, filed in Alameda County (Calif.) Superior Court, accuses Cable of assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress. It says the Raiders made only a cursory investigation of the attack and ratified Cable’s conduct by failing to discipline him and by not allowing Hanson to remain as an assistant coach.

Hanson reportedly is seeking an undisclosed amount of damages in excess of $25,000. He is suing for general damages, past and future lost wages, medical expenses, punitive damages and court costs.
