OAKLAND RAIDERS RAP

Raiders 34, 49ers 28

FLASH RECAP:
Tim Brown catches a 31-yard touchdown pass from Rich Gannon with 4:45 left in overtime to give Oakland a wild 34-28 victory over San Francisco before an announced crowd of 68,344 at 3Comm Park on Oct. 8, 2000. The Raiders drive 84 yards for the winning points after Oakland's Anthony Dorsett blocks a 29-yard field goal attempt by San Francisco's Wade Richey. The Bay Area rivals combine for 62 points, 943 total yards and 23 penalties. The 49ers erase a 28-14 deficit in the fourth quarter on Jeff Garcia touchdown passes to Terrell Owens (31 yards) and Charlie Garner (9 yards). Oakland's Sebastian Janikowski is wide left on a 35-yard field goal attempt 3:11 into overtime. He also misses a 41-yard attempt late in the fourth quarter.

PRIME-TIME PLAYERS:

Oakland
WR Tim Brown -- Contributes seven catches for 172 yards and two touchdowns. He scores on receptions of 30 and 31 yards.
QB Rich Gannon -- Accounts for 395 yards of total offense, 310 passing and 85 rushing. He throws a terrible interception that sets up the 49ers' tying touchdown midway through the fourth period, but still has the resiliency to rally his team to victory.
SS Anthony Dorsett -- Blocks a 29-yard field goal attempt by San Francisco's Wade Richey with 6:15 left in overtime.
WR James Jett -- Has three receptions for 26 yards, his first catches in three games. Also draws three pass interference calls.

San Francisco
QB Jeff Garcia -- Throws for four touchdowns and 336 yards with no interceptions despite taking a beating from Oakland defenders.
WR Terrell Owens -- Has a career-high 12 catches for 176 yards and two touchdowns. His 31-yard score during the fourth quarter was a thing of beauty, breaking tackles after catching a Jeff Garcia pass over the middle and willing his way into the end zone.
WR Jerry Rice -- Future Hall of Famer makes a nice catch on 5-yard touchdown against Oakland's Charles Woodson late in the first half. Rice finishes with five receptions for 46 yards.
RB Charlie Garner -- Rushes for 109 yards and catches the tying touchdown pass midway through the fourth period, but his two fumbles (after hits by Oakland's Darrell Russell and Tony Bryant) lead to 10 Oakland points.

GOAT OF THE GAME:
49ers cornerback Monty Montgomery watches Oakland's Tim Brown score the winning touchdown on a 31-yard reception in overtime. After Brown goes in motion at the line of scrimmage, he blows past Montgomery down the sideline to get open to catch Rich Gannon's pass at the San Francisco 8-yard line.

TURNING POINT:
Oakland FS Anthony Dorsett blocks a 29-yard field goal attempt by San Francisco's Wade Richey in overtime. The Raiders score the winning touchdown six plays later.

KEY DRIVE:
The Raiders move 84 yards in five plays, culminated by Rich Gannon's 31-yard touchdown pass to Tim Brown in overtime.

BY THE NUMBERS:

  • 2: Field goals missed by Oakland's Sebastian Janikowski.
  • 3: San Francisco pass interference penalties drawn by Oakland's James Jett.
  • 8: Dropped passes by Raiders receivers.
  • 943: Combined total yards for the two teams. The 49ers had 472 yards, one more than the Raiders.

THEY SAID IT:
"It was a fight. It was San Francisco vs. Oakland, what can you say? The only thing keeping us away from each other is the bridge. We all wanted to get after it."

Oakland DT Darrell Russell

"Sometimes no matter what you do or how hard you play the game, it doesn't work out."

San Francisco WR Jerry Rice
