Chargers 26, Raiders 13

FLASH RECAP:
Philip Rivers throws for a touchdown and Ryan Mathews runs for another to help San Diego defeat Oakland on Dec. 22, 2013 before an announced crowd of 65,675 at Qualcomm Stadium.

Rivers' 4-yard scoring pass to Keenan Allen with five minutes left in the third quarter snaps a 10-all tie. San Diego's 77-yard drive is aided by Oakland penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct and holding.

The Chargers' first touchdown (Mathews' 7-yard run late in the second quarter) is set up by an Oakland roughing the passer penalty.

The Raiders (4-11) self-destruct with 12 penalties for 73 yards and two turnovers.

The Chargers' Nick Novak kicks four field goals, three in the second half, as San Diego (8-7) wins its third straight game and hands Oakland its seventh loss the past eight games.

Darren McFadden scores on a 5-yard run and Sebastian Janikowski kicks two field goals for Oakland, which drops its fifth straight game.

PRIME-TIME PLAYERS:

San Diego
RB Ryan Mathews — Has 99 rushing yards on 25 carries and a TD. His 7-yard scoring run late in the first half erases a 10-7 deficit.

Chargers defense — The unit surrenders only 265 total yards and forces two turnovers. San Diego stops Oakland on nine of 13 third-down tries and allows only 14 first downs.

QB Philip Rivers — Is 19 of 29 passing for 201 yards and a touchdown with an interception. Rivers' 4-yard scoring pass to Keenan Allen 10 minutes into the third quarter gives the Chargers a 17-10 lead.

Oakland
WR Andre Holmes — Has five catches for 71 yards.

TE Mychal Rivera — His 37-yard leaping catch sets up Darren McFadden's 5-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter.

P Marquette King — Averages 54.2 yards on five punts, including a 63-yarder.

KEY STATS:
San Diego's Philip Rivers improves to 12-4 in starts against Oakland.


The Chargers have 148 rushing yards on 37 carries. The Raiders enter the game ranked ninth against the run, allowing 103.9 yards per game.
Oakland has 59 rushing yards on 17 carries. The Raiders enter the game ranked second in AFC rushing at 134.1 yards per game.
The Raiders' Rod Streater has one catch for two yards. He can't hold a potential 39-yard TD catch late in the fourth quarter.
