Raiders 23, Colts 18

FLASH RECAP:
Interceptions by Anthony Dorsett and Tory James help Oakland defeat Indianapolis before an announced crowd of 56,972 at the RCA Dome on Oct. 14, 2001. Dorsett gives Oakland (4-1) a 13-3 lead in the second quarter when he returns a Peyton Manning interception 39 yards for a touchdown. Dorsett also scored on an interception return against Miami in Week 2. With the Raiders leading by five points, a James interception stops the Colts' final drive near midfield with 55 seconds remaining. Tyrone Wheatley scores on a 1-yard run and Sebastian Janikowski kicks field goals of 39, 42 and 37 yards for the Raiders. Marvin Harrison catches 3- and 6-yard touchdown passes from Manning for the Colts (2-2). The Colts' Mike Vanderjagt misses a PAT attempt late in the first half, ending his streak of 125 consecutive PATs. The Raiders beat the Colts for the second straight season at the RCA Dome.

PRIME-TIME PLAYERS:

Oakland
WR Tim Brown -- Catches seven passes for 145 yards. His 32-yard reception sets up a Tyrone Wheatley 1-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter.
QB Rich Gannon -- Completes 18 of 32 passes for 243 yards with no interceptions. His 11 completions to WRs Tim Brown and Jerry Rice net first downs.
K Sebastian Janikowski -- Makes field goals of 39, 42 and 37 yards. Kicks off into the end zone four times, three for touchbacks. Misses a 59-yard try on the final play of the first half, ending a streak of 10 straight field goals.
FS Anthony Dorsett -- Returns a Peyton Manning interception 39 yards for a second-quarter touchdown.
CB Tory James -- Seals the victory with an interception at the Oakland 44 with 55 seconds remaining.
Indianapolis
WR Marvin Harrison -- Catches 3- and 6-yard touchdown passses from Peyton Manning. On the 6-yarder, Manning's pass deflects off the hands of tight end Ken Dilger, who is drilled by Oakland's Johnnie Harris. Harrison, standing behind Dilger, alertly grabs the football with his left hand and keeps both feet inbounds as he falls to the AstroTurf in the end zone.
RB Edgerrin James -- Rushes for 116 yards on 26 carries, and has six catches for 51 yards.
LB Marcus Washington -- Has two of the Colts' three sacks.
WR Reggie Wayne -- The rookie from Miami has a 20-yard reception on the Colts' third-quarter touchdown drive.

GOAT OF THE GAME:
Colts QB Peyton Manning -- Passes for 241 yards and two touchdowns, but also throws two killer interceptions. Anthony Dorsett returns the first interception 39 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter, and Tory James halts the Colts' final drive with an interception at the Oakland 44 with 55 seconds remaining.

TURNING POINT:
Anthony Dorsett returns a Peyton Manning interception 39 yards for a touchdown to give Oakland a 13-3 advantage with 5:24 left in the second quarter.

KEY DRIVE:
Clinging to a 20-18 lead, Oakland moves 61 yards in 14 plays in 6 minutes, 49 seconds. Rich Gannon completes 5 of 6 passes for 53 yards to help the Raiders move from their 20 to the Colts' 11. After Sebastian Janikowski kicks a 37-yard field goal, the Colts get possession with 2:17 remaining.

BY THE NUMBERS:

  • 1: Offensive touchdowns by Oakland in its last two road games.
  • 4: Peyton Manning interceptions returned for touchdowns in the Colts' first four games this season.
  • 25: Combined tackles for Oakland linebackers William Thomas (10 tackles) Greg Biekert (8) and Elijah Alexander (7).
