Raiders 16, Jets 13

FLASH RECAP:
Sebastian Janikowski kicks a franchise-record 57-yard field goal with 2:30 left in overtime to give Oakland (2-4) a stirring victory over New York (3-3) before an announced crowd of 61,901 fans at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum on Oct. 19, 2008.

After Oakland forces a third New York punt in the extra period, JaMarcus Russell completes back-to-back passes to Javon Walker (16 yards) and Zach Miller (27 yards).

Janikowski is called on by interim head coach Tom Cable to attempt a game-winner after a Justin Fargas run loses a yard and two Russell incompletions force fourth-and-11 from the New York 39.

"Soon as I hit it, I celebrated," Janikowski tells reporters following Oakland’s first win over New York in four tries.

Defense plays a huge role in the Raiders ending a three-game losing streak. The Jets’ Brett Favre is 21-of-38 passing for 197 yards with no touchdown passes and two interceptions. His passer rating is an abysmal 47.8.

Russell is 17-of-30 passing for 201 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions for an NFL career-high 88.6 efficiency rating.

Janikowski set the previous Raiders record for longest field goal with a 56-yarder against Kansas City in Week 2 of the 2008 season.

PRIME-TIME PLAYERS:

Oakland
Coach Tom Cable — Two of his three gambles lead to a Raiders victory, capped by his decision to allow Sebastian Janikowski to attempt a 57-yard field goal in OT. Cable calls a run from punt formation that picks up a first down on a 22-yard gain by Jon Alston. The fake punt leads to Janikowksi’s go-ahead 37-yard field goal with 2:56 left in regulation.

Cable’s decision to call timeout seconds before the Jets’ Jay Feely misses a 52-yard field goal (it hits the left upright) backfires. Given a second chance after the Oakland timeout, Feely nails a 52-yarder with 8 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Two-out-of-three ain't bad for a rookie head coach.
K Sebastian Janikowski — His game-winning 57-yard field goal in OT sets a franchise record. He also hits 29- and 37-yard kicks during regulation, but misses a 40-yard attempt.
WR Javon Walker — Has his best game as a Raider, contributing 5 catches for 75 yards and a TD. His 8-yard scoring catch early in the second half gives Oakland a 10-3 lead.

New York
RB Thomas Jones — Has 159 rushing yards on 24 carries. He averages 6.6 yards per carry.
K Jay Feely — His 52-yard field goal with 8 seconds left in regulation forces overtime. He hits a 40-yarder for the game’s first points in the opening period.
RB Leon Washington — Scores the Jets’ only TD on an 11-yard run midway through the fourth quarter.

KEY STATS:
The Jets' Brett Favre has no TD passes after throwing for 11 TDs in four previous games against Oakland.

THEY SAID IT:
"That’s probably one of the best I have made. I’ve tried longer ones. I tried a 64-yarder last year. If I had made that one, it would have been the best one. But this one is up there. It’s No. 1."

Raiders K Sebastian Janikowski

"I came here (to the Jets) to win games like that. So, that’s what’s disappointing for me. I’ve been in a lot of those. You don’t win them all, but I felt like being the first time in that situation, I would pull us out. … That’s one of the toughest losses I’ve ever been a part of."

Jets QB Brett Favre

"A lot of people outside of us expect us to blow that."
