Raiders 21, Lions 3

FLASH RECAP:
Aaron Brooks throws two touchdowns passes to Randy Moss (63 and 25 yards) and Lamont Jordan scores on a 14-yard run as Oakland defeats Detroit before an announced crowd of 43,889 at McAfee Coliseum on Aug. 25, 2006.

While the Brooks-led Raiders offense scores touchdowns on three of its first four possessions, the Oakland defense also shines against the Lions (1-2). During the opening half, the Raiders' first-team defense pitches a shutout, has three sacks and forces two turnovers (a Kirk Morrison interception and Derrick Gibson fumble recovery).

The Raiders force their sixth and seventh interceptions of the 2006 exhibition season. They had a league-low five interceptions during the 2005 regular season.

Jason Hansen kicks a 38-yard field goal for the Lions late in the third quarter.

The Raiders open an exhibition season with four wins for the first time since 1975.

PRIME-TIME PLAYERS:

Oakland
WR Randy Moss — Has TD catches of 63 and 25 yards during the first half as the Raiders build a 21-0 lead. He finishes with 102 receiving yards on three catches (a whopping 34.0 yards per catch).
QB Aaron Brooks — Is 9-of-15 passing for 187 yards and two TDs for a 143.6 passing rating.
MLB Kirk Morrison — Has one interception, two passes defensed and a team-high six total tackles.

Detroit
WR Eddie Drummond — His 49-yard catch sets up a Jason Hanson field goal. Drummond finishes with four catches for 71 yards.
DT Shaun Cody — Has two sacks and four total tackles.
K Jason Hanson — His 38-yard field goal late in the third quarter prevents a Detroit shutout.

KEY STAT:
Oakland scores touchdowns on three of its first four possessions to build a 21-0 advantage.

BY THE NUMBERS:
1: Catches for Oakland's Ronald Curry. His 7-yard reception late in the first quarter is his first catch since sustaining a torn left Achilles tendon against Kansas City on Sept. 18, 2005.
3: Raiders turnovers, including interceptions by Kirk Morrison and Chris Carr.
76: Lions rushing yards. Detroit averages only 3.8 yards on 20 rushing plays
187: Aaron Brooks passing yards. The ex-Saints QB threw for only 144 yards during Oakland's first three exhibition games.

DID YOU KNOW?:
The Raiders open an exhibition season with four wins for only the third time in franchise history. Oakland won its first four games in 1972 and 1975. During the 1971 exhibition season, Oakland won five straight games after dropping its opener. The Raiders also won their opening five games in 1975 before losing their exhibition finale.
